Collection: Class 4: Flammable solids

Class 4 hazard labels are used to identify flammable solids and related substances classified as dangerous goods during transport. These materials can ignite easily, react dangerously when exposed to moisture, or burn rapidly, creating significant fire and handling risks. Typical examples include matches, metal powders, sodium batteries, phosphorus compounds, self‑reactive substances and certain industrial chemicals.

To ensure safe handling and regulatory compliance, Class 4 is divided into three divisions, each representing a different type of hazard:

Divisions 4.1 – Flammable Solids: Includes substances that ignite through friction, heat or contact with ignition sources, such as nitrocellulose, metal powders and safety matches.

Divisions4.2 – Substances Liable to Spontaneous Combustion: Covers materials that may self‑heat or ignite when exposed to air, such as phosphorus or certain carbon‑based products.

Divisions 4.3 – Substances Which, in Contact with Water, Emit Flammable Gases: Includes chemicals like sodium, potassium and calcium carbide, which release dangerous gases when wet.

Each Class 4 label features the appropriate hazard symbol, the division number (4.1, 4.2 or 4.3) and the standardised colour background: red and white stripes for 4.1, half‑white/half‑red for 4.2, and blue for 4.3. These labels are mandatory for compliant transport under IATA/DGR, ADR, IMDG, ADN and RID regulations, ensuring clear identification across air, road, sea, rail and inland waterways.

Class 4 labels are essential for logistics operators, chemical distributors, industrial suppliers, laboratories, warehouses and any business handling or shipping flammable solids or reactive materials.

We offer Class 4 labels in polypropylene (100×100 mm and 100×135 mm) and vinyl placards (250×250 mm and 300×300 mm), available with text, without text or customised on‑demand printing. Packs and rolls of 250, 500 and 1000 are available to support all dangerous goods operations.
