Collection: Class 1: Explosive

Class 1 hazard labels are essential for the correct identification and safe transport of explosive substances and articles. These orange labels are used for any material or device capable of producing an explosive, pyrotechnic or rapid energy‑release effect. They apply to a wide range of items, including ammunition, detonators, fireworks, airbag inflators, blasting charges and other articles that may present an explosive hazard during handling or transport.

To ensure full compliance with international transport regulations, explosive materials are divided into six divisions, each representing a specific type of risk. Class 1 labels also include compatibility groups, shown as a letter in the centre of the diamond, which indicate how different explosive substances can be stored or transported together. This classification system helps carriers, logistics operators and safety professionals identify the correct handling requirements for each type of explosive.

Divisions 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 cover the highest‑risk explosives. Labels for these divisions display the explosive symbol, the division number (such as 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3) and the appropriate compatibility group letter. These categories include mass‑explosive substances, projection hazards and fire‑producing articles such as dynamite, detonating fuses, flares and certain types of ammunition.

Divisions 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 apply to explosives with lower associated risks. Labels for these divisions also show the division number and compatibility group letter, with numerals required to be at least 30 mm in height. These categories include articles with limited explosive effects, insensitive substances and items that present no significant hazard under normal transport conditions, such as safety fuses and some pyrotechnic devices.

Using the correct Class 1 labels is essential for compliance with IATA/DGR, ADR, IMDG, ADN and RID regulations. These labels ensure that explosive materials are clearly identified, properly handled and transported safely across road, air, sea, rail and inland waterways.
